Carte de visite of William A. Stuart. William A. Stuart, a resident of Pella, Iowa, was 25 years of age when he enlisted as a corporal on May 21, 1861. Stuart enlisted as Captain at age 27, October 11, 1863, of the First Iowa Regiment Volunteer Infantry. The photograph is part of a group of images collected by Col. John G. Hudson, First Iowa Infantry, African Descent, of federal soldiers and officers stationed at Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas, 1863-1864. Stuart survived the Civil War.
